Did you read the Gospel of John?
Maybe you have read the other gospels some other time? Matthew, Marc or Luke?
Then you have read about God. You now know that He created everything, including you.
You then have read in John 3:16 that God so loved the world, that includes you, that He sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world. He didn't do that to condemn the world but to do the opposite, to save people.
Jesus came to earth to make it possible to restore the broken relationship with God.
Jesus has shown us how much He loves us by taking our place in the righteous judgment of God concerning sin.
Yes, all men have sinned against God, especially by not giving homage to Him as the Creator.
But there are many more sins. Surely you can sum up a few yourselves before God.
Jesus, in His great love, has taken on all these sins upon Himself when He died on the cross of Golgotha. His blood has been shed there for us.
The big gap that was between God and men, started once with Adam and Eve, that big gap is not unbridgeable anymore.
There is a possibility again for the people, for you, to come to God.
Jesus is The Way, to God, the Father.
Jesus didn't stay on the cross, like so many crucifixes make us believe. He is buried, like you have read and after three days He became alive again. Jesus is now with God and is our recommendation there.
If you believe that God exists and that he sent Jesus to earth to take on your sins on to Himself; if you believe that Jesus carried the punishment on sin on the cross of Golgotha, then Jesus can also be the Way to God the father for you. (You can read this in this bible verse John 14:6)
What do you have to do to get this?
Actually very little. Jesus already did it all. The only thing you can do is ask God for forgiveness for everything that was wrong in your life. And then He will forgive you!
You ask Him if He wants to come into your heart. And He will come into your heart! From that moment on you are a child of God and you may call Him Father.
The apostle Paul sent different letters to people and groups of people, who together formed a church, a community. A lot is being explained in those letters. Guidelines are also given for the Christian life. In the letter, Paul wrote to the Romans, we can read that you have to speak out that Jesus is your Lord. You have to believe it with your whole heart that God has raised Him from the dead. Then you will be saved. (Please read the bible text Romans 10:9-13 )
By trusting on Jesus Christ with your whole heart you will be proclaimed righteous and by opening up to this you will be saved. Everybody who trusts in Him will not be disappointed. (Please read this bible text Colossians 1:13-14)
What happens next?
You have made the most important step in your life. You have asked God for forgiveness, you have asked Him to come into your heart. He will do that. Maybe you think: I can't believe that. But the Bible says it is true. Personally I can witness, I experienced that myself and even today. The Holy Spirit of God will dwell in you when you give yourself to Jesus.
How to move on?
Paul once wrote a letter to the Colossians and in there are a lot of things about how to move on. In this letter Paul explains that God has delivered us from the power of the darkness and gave us a place in the kingdom of His Son, whom He loves. He bought our freedom with His blood and by that we received forgiveness for all our sins. A bit further down the letter Paul explains that Jesus is the head of the church. This church is His body. So all believers together form the body of Christ.
A body functions best if all parts of the body are connected with each other. Suppose a finger would say: "I don't really want to be connected to the body, I can also live separate from the body." Can a finger do that? Can a body part live on without being connected to the body? You know of course that this is not possible. So it will be clear to you now that a believer cannot really do without the community, without a church.
Just as a body part gets its nourishment and all that it needs from the rest of the body, the same goes for a believer. Believers need the body of Christ, the church community, to be fed by them but also to have an assignment therein, just like every human part of your body is necessary and supporting for the rest of the body.
In short: look for a church community.
Yes, but which one?
You can have a long look for the perfect church, unfortunately they don't exist. But there are a lot of nice and good communities which would be a perfect place for you. From my own experience I know that people who were recently converted can get the best care in an evangelical community.
There are for example the Full Evangelical Church, the Pentecost and the Baptists. There are even more but better ask God if He can make it clear to you which community, at this moment, is the best for you.
The parts of your body do not only connect with each other but especially with your head. Your whole body is controlled by your head. The Head of the church: Jesus, also leads His Body, the (church) community. It is of vital importance to have a good contact with the head, with Jesus.
That means that you have to communicate with Him. Just talk to Jesus. You can also call it praying. But how does Jesus talk to you? He can simply do this by talking into your heart. Sometimes there are people who even literally hear a voice but that doesn't happen often. Usually He talks into your heart. You will just know it when He says something to you.
But how do you know it is not you who is just thinking something? You don't always know this for sure. Then you can pray for a confirmation. There are a lot examples in the Bible of God talking to the people. And also of confirmations.
In the Full Gospel and Pentecost church it is not unusual for a believer to get up and say that he or she thinks to have to pass on a word from the Lord. If you yourself heard the voice of God, then you can ask God to confirm this in the community. It could take a couple of weeks but if you really think having heard Gods voice in your heart, he will confirm it. Keep it quiet and only talk to God about it.
Another way of God talking is if He speaks through His Word, the Bible. The Bible is not only the best sold book in the world, it is also the book of God. Everything we want to and can know about God is in the Bible. The Bible is so curiously beautiful but also incredibly accurate.
Everything God wants us to know is in the Bible.
Do not believe the remarks of some theologians as if the Bible would be unreliable. I have never found something that was not reliable or inaccurate. It is the most wonderful book there is. In the course of thousands of years many people have written down words God had told them to write. All these books together form the Bible. The incredible thing is that they form a whole unity.
All these books nowhere contradict each other but only form an addition. This book, the Bible, can be nothing else than Gods word.
Whatever we may think, or think we hear from God, it should always be in accordance with what the Bible teaches.
Next to praying, the most important thing you can do: read the Bible every day.
It is unimaginable how reading the Bible changes your life. Read the Bible with an open heart and with the belief that the risen Lord Jesus speaks to you by His Word. He wants to teach us about the "why" but also about the "how" in this life.
He wants to educate you how a royal child , because that is what you are if you asked Jesus to come into your heart, how to live and be prepared to fulfil an important duty later in His kingdom.
On this site are several Bible studies which can help you to get more insight in these Matthew rs.
I wish you Gods blessing.

The short answer to the question: How to become a believer?
Believe that God created the world and you. Believe that Jesus, Gods son, died also for your sins on the cross of Golgotha, over 2000 years ago.
Go on your knees and ask Him forgiveness for your sins. Ask Jesus to come into your heart. Your sins will be forgiven and He shall come into your heart. You shall experience the peace of God.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
"9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.""
"13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
